Musicians supporting musicians through the covid19 crisis

Mill Hill Music Complex studios are currently closed. Like just about every musician in London at the moment, we have no income at all coming in. All apart from one of our staff is on furlough and this is a challenge beyond anything we could have imagined even a month ago. This year, we were sponsoring three local music festivals, all of which have sadly been cancelled. That is dozens of musicians disappointed. Our customers have had gigs cancelled all over London, in the States, in Europe and Asia. The support teams are now stuck at home with no money.

There is some great advice on the Musicians Union site, which is well worth checking out.

Mill Hill Music Complex is committed to working with local charities to support local musicians. Please can you let us know if there are any musicians living locally who are suffering hardship. As the studios are currently not in use, we are offering these to local charity groups for storage etc, and we hope to be able to organise parcels for any musicians in extreme need of basics and necessities. Sadly not all of us will make it through these times. If we lose any of our local music family, please let us know. We will be organising some sort of tribute when appropriate. Sadly, we have already heard of a couple of our customers who have not made it. Please email us by clicking here.  Bear with us if it takes a couple of days to respond.

As we are a commercial business, these times are very difficult for us as well. I have been truly moved at how supportive and understanding our customers have been during these times. We had to shut up shop with no notice and many customers had sessions bought and paid for.  Due to the constraints we are now working under, we cannot man phones, and emails can only be responded to on a sporadic basis. Many of our customers have been most understanding, many have asked how they can help us get through it, understanding the huge challenge this will be.  When the lockdown is lifted, we want to see musicians back and  playing as soon as possible. For all customers who had sessions booked and paid for, who have not requested a refund, we have decided that the most appropriate way to say thank you for the support is by moving the session to a suitable time when the studio is allowed to reopen. We will also give those customers a second follow up booking  in the same studio absolutely free. And to say a special thanks we will email a voucher code that will give you a 10% discount on all sessions to the end of the year. After discussions, we concluded that some customers may wish to also take advantage of this who have not already booked. So we are offering any customer who books a session online for any time this year, a free additional session and a discount voucher. We have raised the booking limit from three months in advance to eight months in advance. If you book online, we will add  a session in the same studio for either one or two weeks later. You will be able to move this via your online account or email us to reschedule. Just to re-emphasise, all sessions that are been lost due to the lockdown will be treated as studio credits, in  the event lockdown is longer than anticipated.

If our customers can support us in this way, it will be a huge help to our cashflow as we manage the business through these times. We still have a swathe of bills to pay and this will help us get through.
